The Women's "Press Refresh" Programme is supported by the Department for the Economy's Flexible Skills Fund and delivered in partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College (BMC) and Women in Business (WIB).

The Data Analytics Programme is a free, supportive, and intensive 16-week training programme to give women who are currently doing a valuable caring role, on a career break, unemployed, not in paid work or working less than 16 hours a week, the opportunity to learn new skills, explore data analytics, build confidence and enter the Tech sector.

Maybe you have an interest for the Tech sector but thought that it's not for you - Press Refresh allows you to explore the opportunities that exist in the rapidly growing industry and give you confidence, skills and know-how to advance into the sector.

No previous experience in the Tech sector is required, you will also be given £31.00 daily training allowance upon attendance. to help you decide if this is the right path for you, the application process includes a psychometric test.

The programme is a part-time 16-week training programme (For full timetable visit www.pressrefresh.co.uk). Any Childcare needs will be discussed, and we will endeavour to support a level of costs. Training will be online through a virtual classroom.

We will engage with employers through the course of the programme and on completion we will work with participants to help secure an interview, where possible. 


Essential Criteria:


  • Women must be over 18 years of age
  • You must be a resident of Northern Ireland
  • Eligible to work in Northern Ireland or ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland and has been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least 3 years; or is a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK. 
  • 2 years previous career experience 

In the event that a large number of applications are received, we reserve the right to enhance the minimum criteria

 The Application Process


  • Applications open on Monday 11th October 2022 
  • Applications close on Friday 4th November 2022 
  • Up to 20 places will be awarded on Monday 7th November 2022

The selection process will entail an online application psychometric assessment.  There is no preparation required to undertake the assessment. This is a user-friendly tool designed to help define and measure participants’ personality preferences, natural aptitudes, abilities and motivational interests. Please allow 45 minutes to complete the assessment.

Course Details


Successful applicants will require appropriate IT access in order to join the online course. The course is taught live using MS Teams. Webcams and mics can be provided and there may be an option to borrow a laptop from the college.

When you successfully complete the programme you will gain work ready skills, new CVs, interview and communications skills and resilience strategies alongside qualifications in Database Fundamentals, Power BI and Project Management that will prepare you to seek employment in the field of Data Analytics. 


Press Refresh is designed to support you back into your career by building back your confidence while quickly transferring knowledge and upskilling you in a range of practical data analysis/ visualisation tools and techniques. The programme includes Mentor support from female role models in the Tech sector.

If you are successful on gaining a place on the course, you will be required to upload a copy of your ID and highest qualification certificate to your college student enrolment page. If you cannot upload a copy of your qualification certificate, you must provide evidence that you have attained it.

If your qualification was obtained outside the United Kingdom or Ireland, please upload a comparability statement from NARIC to prove the equivalence classification. Information on how to obtain this is contained in the link below.

Inclusive Learning

If the Online Psychometric Assessment is likely to pose a particular difficulty for you due to learning support requirements, please contact Mindmill and outline your specific requirements. It will be necessary for you to furnish documentary substantiation of your condition (e.g. medical reports or educational psychologist's report) prior to taking the test.

Are you over 18 years of age?

Are you a resident of Northern Ireland?

Are you eligible to work in Northern Ireland or ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least 3 years; or are a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK?

Do you hold a higher level qualification (i.e. higher level diploma, HND, BTEC etc.)? (Evidence of qualification will be requested if successful)

Do you have two years’ workplace experience?
